A Kakistocracy

Some people claim that the mere presence of two complete morons as president and vice-president is proof that the country is, in fact, now ruled by a shadow oligarchy.

Others, with some justification, think that that the country is ruled by kakistocracy, a system of government run by the “worst” people, meaning the least qualified and/or most unscrupulous citizens. You’ll note that there need not be any contradiction between the two terms.

The word is derived from two Greek words, kakistos (worst) and kratos (rule), with a literal meaning of government by the worst people.

A kakistocracy hallmarks a civilization in decline and in addition to corrupt and venal leaders public morals may also degrade. Spiritual corruption may be a related stage in the collapse of civilizations.
