One Week in Swedish Crime

This guy has been documenting this for a quite a while, but Snaphanen published the newest numbers (this is the source tweet). The original text is below the fold.

April 4-April 9, 2021
• 8 murders
• 9 attempted murder
• 6 stabbings
• 12 arsons

There are (apparently) lots more, for example, an uncounted number of rapes and car arsons. And should you think that this was just a bad week, the numbers from the week before are

• 5 murders
• 9 attempted murders
• 17 stabbings
• 2 shots fired
• 2 bombings
• 2 aggravated stabbings
• 6 arsons

and the usual uncounted rapes and car fires.

To be honest, I don’t know if these numbers are significant. They seem so to me because I don’t remember Sweden as being particularly murderous in the 70s and 80s. Others with closer ties to Scandinavia in general and Sweden in particular, like Snaphanen, insist that these numbers demonstrate a coarsening if not a worsening in Sweden daily life. The message of these commenters is rhetorically attacked as “(extreme) right-wing” and the commenters themselves judicially threatened. There are a lot of powerful entities in Scandinavia that will not (nor cannot) admit that various social policies over the last 50 years were in any way mistaken (aka catastrophically bad).
