Part 2: Something Is, In Fact, Rotten

Part 1: Something Is, In Fact, Rotten.

Yesterday, Steen from Snaphanen reported on the next phase of his Trial, titled The Personal Evaluation of an Unpunished Senior Citizen (I have taken some liberty with the Danish word, “personundersøgelse”. It is bureaucrat-ese and literally translates to the rather bland “person investigation”. In theory, it is a hearing or evaluation intended to uncover any mitigating and aggravating circumstances of a person under threat of criminal punishment; in reality, who knows?). Again, original below the fold:

The Criminal Welfare department has called me in to a personal evaluation and my lawyer thinks I should participate so that I appear to be someone civilized which can only benefit me. I don’t really care if I am punished in a case which I believe to be political persecution – the police themselves said it was political – but I will follow my lawyer’s advice as long as I have him. I have, as of yet, still not received any formal accusation – 14 months after I was arrested as a dangerous terrorist.

Some hours later (almost today), Steen published comments from two of his friends. I have translated the one, from Professor Bent Rasmussen below.

About a year ago, the editor of Snaphanen, a blog that continually reports on the progress of Islamization, was raided by the police and taken away in handcuffs.

Editor Steen Raaschou’s computers were confiscated and taken to the police station. As far as I know, they have never been returned.

Now, he has received from Criminal Welfare, a pseudo-friendly letter that starts with “Hi Steen”. He must attend an in-depth Personal Evaluation.

In it, he will be investigated for the possibility of “re-socialization”, along with his alcohol usage, drugs, mental health, and suitability for social service. The contents are embarrassing and stupid.

Steen Raaschou is no young man, he is receiving [the Danish version of] Social Security.

I would say no to this fake friendliness, send the letter back and request to be addressed in a civil manner with both first and last name.

The text speaks of “the current case”, but has a formal accusation been created? For Steen Raaschou, which crime has he actually committed?

By accepting Criminal Welfare’s demand, he is letting the camel’s nose in the tent and is, even if indirectly, admitting that he has committed a crime.

In the USSR, independent thinkers and those who the regime found difficult were sent to a psychiatric institution for treatment of their obsessions.

I get goose-bumps reading the text of Criminal Welfare’s letter.

Steen’s comments
