Reagan said and wrote a lot of things. Some were, in fact, pretty stupid (“Trees cause more pollution than automobiles..”), a characteristic which will guarantee them a long life thanks to his enemies who are quite happy to keep them in storage. Anyway, a list of Reagan quotes that I like; no links needed, it’s too easy to find them and more.

To start things out:

Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.

I like this one for the opening line and the followup context:

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we’ve been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden.

Update (20150101): and this evergreen that I find myself using much more than I thought I would:

A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take it all away.

There are a whole lot of dumbasses in this country – and well, around the worldm, that don’t get this.
