Th’ newspaper does ivrything f’r us

Don Surber wrote in an essay about things journalists get wrong, that the notion that the job of newspapers (the media) is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, is actually part of a sarcastic diatribe against newspapers:

Th’ newspaper does ivrything f’r us. It runs th’ polis foorce an’ th’ banks, commands th’ milishy, controls th’ ligislachure, baptizes th’ young, marries th’ foolish, comforts th’ afflicted, afflicts th’ comfortable, buries th’ dead an’ roasts thim aftherward.

Journalism. It’s odd how with people as astute as Surber around that the net effect of “journalism” is such stupidity.
