Dagens Danmark

[There was a lot to translate and I'm not sure I'm completely happy. This may be revisited].

As I wrote before, Official Denmark still doesn’t seem to fully appreciate the reality of its “vibrant communities” – or does and doesn’t care. An update under the heading “Dagens Danmark” (This Day in Denmark). A couple of posts from Uriasposten translated (originals below the fold).

Post 1.

[The post starts with a reference to a group from Facebook, I think, in which Danish speaking "vibrants" applaud the story below and some Danes deny its validity]. From the Mid-Jutland newspaper: Couple Attacked by Gang While Eating Pizza:

Sunday morning, a 23 year old man and a 24-year old woman were sitting in front of a pizzeria on Nygade eating pizza they had just bought.

According to the mother of the man, a young man of “another ethnic origin than Danish” [that is, in fact, the term used in Denmark] came up to the woman and asked if she was eating pork on her pizza. When she said yes, he hit her in the face.

When the man tried to come between the two, a gang of five or six others arrived and began to beat the man, saiys the mother.

[The article, but not the post, mentions that the police were called right away but could not find the gang. They are investigating.

After a graphic, a couple of comments, apparently from the group mentioned above were included.]

Don’t eat pig, filthy animal – this was completely OK if you ask me (Qayúm Afzál, Facebook, 13. marts 2017)

Are you certain this is not an article from Den Korte Avis [an alternative newspaper]? Racist piss. To be honest, I would much rather be Muslim instead of Christian. (Maria Michelle Tilk, Facebook, 13. marts 2017)

Post 2.

Nothing is really surprising anymore. A story from DR2 Online (one of the Danish state TV stations): Black Army to the Homeless: Give Us Money or Become a Pusher

Most of the homeless look forward to the last business day of the month when they get their cash welfare payment. The Black Army [a vibrant gang] has found out about this so its members have begun to threaten those receiving the payments.

One of them who has experienced these threats is Ole. He tells TV2 that in December he was attacked after his cash had just been paid out.

“They wanted me to sell hash, but I didn’t want to. So they threatened me with knife and with beatings and said I should give them my money. I was so scared, I gave them my DKr 1900 [about $300] that had just been paid out to me”, said Ole.

[…]

At the Salvation Army, there is no doubt that the problem is escalating.

“We have here 30-40 homeless who have been stopped by the Black Army. They are now quite scared and do not feel secure anyplace anymore”, says HW, leader of The Salvation Army in Odense [third largest city in Denmark].

And bonus! A third post from this morning (March 16). The immigration situation in Denmark has apparently reached the chin-stroking stage, ie, concern but don’t do anything rash – well, except for that fascist Donald Trump… OK, OK, I added that last part.

It is tempting to present this as positive, but the investigation simply shows that a third of Danes will not change their minds. After decades of Muslim immigration and 20 years of debate, 45% of the Left continues to think that Muslim immigration need not be limited.

A TNS Gallup investigation for Berlingske [a Danish newspaper]: Two out of three will limit Mulsim Immigration

For questions regarding foreigners and immigration split Danes are sharply split between those would tighten and those who would loosen restrictions. But perhaps less than before. After two years of terror, immigration, “Danish-ness”, scarves, “beauty law” [not sure what this is], prayer rooms, refugees and migrants in political debate, Danes have moved significantly to the right in the immigration debate.

This is the finding of a wide-ranging investigation taken by TNS Gallup for Berlingske. The poll compares the opinions of Danes from two years ago with those now and, in multiple questions regarding immigration and Danish values, the voters have moved pretty far to the right. They have become more critical of immigration and Islam.

Even though the government has implemented 48 immigration restrictions and the number of asylum applications has fallen significantly, two third of Danes want restrictions on immigration from Muslim countried. Today it is 64%. In addition, they would like to see restrictions on immigration in general.

[…]

The question of immigration splits the left and the right as few others. While 78% of those of the right-wing parties would restrict Muslim immigration, only 45% of the left agrees.
