The Real Dependency Agenda

Kevin Williamson writes in National Review about Chicago and Rahm Emanuel, calling them partners in corruption. And includes with this perspective:

As I have argued at some length, the really nefarious dependency agenda isn’t focused on the people who cash welfare checks, but on the people who write them, the vast bureaucracies of overpaid functionaries whose main purpose in life is to stand between citizens and their objectives with their hands out saying “Pay me!” Get enough of those and you have effective control over the entire economy — Chávez-style socialism without the nasty business of formal expropriation.

The set-up prior to it and and the conclusions are also worth reading.
