Damen Doubler Ned

In the some 30 years since I moved from Denmark, one of the very evident changes is that Danes use English expressions to a much higher degree now than they did then. It might be said that if one knows how to speak English with a Danish accent, one could claim to speak (modern) Danish. This is, of course, wildly exaggerated but explains why the subject of this post, “The Lady Doubles Down” is written in what would’ve been called bad Danish (but perhaps not amymore).

Snaphanen includes a post from Henrik M. Jensen about a recent interview with the lady referenced in yesterday’s post, Michala Clante Bendixen (original Danish below the fold):

People are so dumb – say people.

Once said by Hans Scherfig [an old-school Danish Communist intellectual who was actually interesting and original, even if wrong] who came from the time in which Communists at least claimed to represent the people and could therefore react ironically towards those who talked down to people.

It’s different with our present-day Socialists (there are almost no Communists left who claim to be such). Those of them who coincidentally represent the immigrant lobby and the asylum industry are an aristocracy that doesn’t even hide their deep disdain for the people.

A good example is the socialist and refugee lobbyist, Michala Clante Bendixen, who, as summer vacation in the newsrooms winds down, tried to draw a bit of attention to herself with an article in the English paper, The Guardian, in which she encouraged those seeking asylum to try Denmark.

She made her presence known already last spring with the following declaration, “Well, it would really nice to remove politics from the asylum process because it is, in fact, something the people should not decide.

On August 8th, she was interviewed on Deadline [a Danish news program] by Jakob Rosenkrands and initially she aired the perspective that probably best explains her position: the aging Danish population will be replaced by the highly educated fetched from Asia and Africa.

Could she live up to her aristocratic and disdainful comments from May 1? Yes, listen up, “Many Danes have absolutely no idea as to the actual asylum laws today”

Jacob Rosenkrands: You don’t recognize the recent election and the majority of Danes that will reduce the number of refugees coming her?

“No, I don’t. I don’t think they necessarily know what it is they are being asked.”

JR: “Do the politicians have a mandate to invite fewer refugees?”

“It is impossible to answer that question. It assumes that people know how things are and what it is they are talking about. And they don’t.”

Shouldn’t we let that quote stand a bit? That quote from the aristocracy of the Left: “People don’t know how things are and what it is they are talking about.”

No, because people are so dumb. Say people.
