Going to School in Denmark is Different

These are two ads for a studieby in Esbjerg, a city on the west coast of Denmark. A studieby (literally a study-town) seems to be a virtual or marketing entity that is the product of a coordinated effort by the higher education institutions of some locale. They want to attract students.

The ad campaign’s slogan is “We’ve taken care of the education, you’re on your own with…”.

First example, for this first ad, “We’ve taken care of the education, you’re on your own with the cleaning”. The young man is on the phone with his mother and explains how he’s actually right in the middle of cleaning up; everything is being polished [my Danish expert is unsure if this is a double entendre].

Young woman shouldn’t feel left out. “We’ve taken care of the education, you’re on your own taking notes.” And the young woman is reassuring her mom that no, it’s not like Hotel Paradise, just a little study group.
